International Oldtimer Rally

May 17 - 20, 2012

Every year hordes of motorsports enthusiasts do not want to pass up taking part in the upmarket vintage car rally. But the rally is a must not just for the drivers and their teams. Hundreds of vintage car fans avail of the opportunity to admire the automotive rarities at close hand, and throng to Wiesbaden. The action starts on the opening day in front of the Kurhaus Wiesbaden: the initial inspection of the vehicles takes place here. This is thus the first real opportunity to have a good look at the beauty of automobiles from ‘car times past’.

Ellsworth Kelly - Exhibition Museum Wiesbaden

March 2 - June 24, 2012

Ellsworth Kelly (born in 1923) is one of the major protagonists of Hardedge painting. Ellsworth Kelly‘s paintings excel thanks to a masterly interaction of shape, colour and space. Contrary to most of his American contemporaries who postulate a radical departure from the traditions of European history of art, Kelly developed his monochrome paintings from the study of European modernity. The key to developing his own artistic language lies, however, in the shapes of ordinary everyday objects: roads without paving, windows and house fronts in cities or plant shapes. The most important instrument for developing and capturing the shapes of a work is a drawing. Therefore, the graphic contrast of black and white plays a critical role in his artistic self-discovery and his entire subsequent development.
